Introducing SmartCoverage™
SmartCoverage™, like SmartPayment™, is a co-pay product for full or partial reimbursement of a medication or device sample used over a period of several visits to a pharmacy. SmartCoverage™ can offset costs that are not fully covered by a patient’s drug plan.
SmartCoverage™ is best used for Bridge to Brand or Bridge to Formulary, Patient Assistance and long term Compassionate Care programs. SmartCoverage™ must accompanied by a valid prescription when necessary. SmartCoverage™ can facilitate the reimbursement of new medications, formulations, strengths or dosing combinations over time. An optional attached key fob is available which can serve as a useful reminder tool for patients requiring chronic therapy treatments.
SmartCoverage™ and other SmartTechnology™ products are improved alternatives to traditional prescription and diagnostic device sampling and medication reimbursement programs at pharmacy. A patient may receive a SmartCoverage™ vehicle from a variety of sources including Physicians, Pharmacists, or sometimes through Direct to Patient Programs where Canadian regulatory requirements allow for it.

Ultimately, by involving the pharmacy in the use of such programs, patients continue to benefit from the addition of counseling by the pharmacist in the delivery of compassionate or formulary bridge type programs!
Health Care Professional and Patient Benefits:
• Pharmacy monitoring for drug-drug interactions improves patient safety as early as the sample.
• Additional patient counseling at pharmacy on appropriate use of medication or device.
• Better controlled distribution vehicle for sampling via pharmacy.
• Eliminates chance of expired product taken from Health Care Professional as product is taken from pharmacist inventory.
• Ability* to provide patients medication not yet reimbursed by their insurance plan(s) until drug is partially or completely covered by the public/private insurance plan system.
*Only if the pharmaceutical manufacturer or other payer initiates a SmartCoverage™ program for the requested drug.
